Huge hole found in roads decline policy

THE controlled deterioration of Moray's £1.55 billion road network agreed to by the Independent/Tory-controlled administration in 2014 is in danger of going too far – leading to huge costs and economic impacts, a report has warned.

Moray Council previously agreed to a cost-cutting 'managed decline' of the network, aiming for the roads to have a mid-table ranking in Scotland.

But the report by the authority's economic development and infrastructure committee states that if the condition of the highways falls much further prohibitive sums will be needed just to stave off further decay.
