A LOCAL schoolteacher has used time during the coronavirus lockdown to raise money for those less fortunate.

Over the last month, supply English teacher at Forres Academy, Mrs Jacky Davidson, has been selling home produce from her garden gate on Darkless Road, Dyke, so far raising £1345 for Moray Food Plus.

She said: "There are many families who are struggling to make ends meet at the moment and Moray Food Plus is a charity that both I and the school support. I am ending the fundraiser on Sunday, May 31 in the hope that, by then, I will have hit £1500."

Mrs Davidson is selling eggs, home-made marmalade, gingerbread, shortbread and tablet to neighbours and passers-by. She grew vegetables from seed - including tomatoes, cucumbers and courgettes - to sell too.

"The people who have supported this have been extremely generous," she said. "One couple from the area donated £200 and a few other folk donated a variety of garden plants to sell as well.

"Because of the lockdown situation, my farm road is the only road off the village for folk to use as exercise so I have had captive customers!"
