A "hamster wheel" is to be included in the new play park equipment at Mannachie voted on by the community - as well as a new zip line.

Moray Council has confirmed a majority of residents chose a design from three options on the Mannachie Park Play Area Upgrade survey that was open during August and September.

A local authority spokesperson said: “We are pleased to announce that we have awarded the Mannachie Park Renewal Project to Proludic.

"We value the support and engagement of the local community who have supported this project, both in influencing the design and with fundraising, which has enhanced the project and its available budget."

She added: "The chosen design incorporates inclusive play items and a wheelchair accessible roundabout.

"We are always looking to improve inclusive play park provision and will always be keen to work with parents and guardians of children with additional needs."

Funding of £70,000 comes from the council’s capital programme and the design choices were developed through participatory budgeting.

A steering group, supported by the Forres Area Forum and Forres Community Council, added £15k to the project budget after submitting a successful funding application to the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund.

Nottingham-based playground equipment supplier, Proludic, has been manufacturing and installing play spaces for over 35 years.

A spokesman said: "We’ve adhered to every aspect of the tender document’s specifications, hand-picking the finest options to create a truly exceptional play area. We’re delivering a play area that both captivates and delights."

An all-inclusive roundabout will be surrounded by a rubber wet-pour surface.

Dynamic two-bay swings are included while a pod swing accommodating up to five children will promote inclusive group play for those with limited motor function.

An agility trail will also feature and a rotating hip-hop see-saw promises fun too.

The Diabolo climbing unit included has a 1.37m slide with a curved ladder, and floating steps.

A further standalone slide will provide a quicker descent and sensory panels - rubber grass matting will provide a safe surface.

"We’ve incorporated a thrilling zip line that will undoubtedly set young hearts racing," added the spokesman. "But the pièce de résistance is our innovative hamster-wheel Rollrunner.

"This imaginative addition elevates the play area’s appeal making it a magnetic hub for all ages in the community."

Moray Council will announce an installation date shortly.

A spokesperson added: "It will open as soon as possible."

Meanwhile, Moray Councillor Scott Lawrence (Forres, SNP) acknowledged the community's input.

He said: "Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the consultation - community engagement should play a vital role in any council-led project.

"The result of this is a wonderfully diverse, inclusive play area for children to enjoy. I can't wait to take my daughter once it's finished!"
