Roll up, roll up – the circus is coming to town

THE circus is a form of live entertainment which continues to stand the test of time.

The thrill of watching performers under the big top definitely gets the adrenaline flowing for the audience.

Zippos Circus will roll into Elgin next week and will be at the auction mart site from Thursday, June 29 to Tuesday, July 4.

Nomads features an international cast including the headliners, the Temujin Troupe – special guests from the Mongolian Steppes. They perform hand voltige, skipping and aerial acts.

Mongolia is one of the last places where a nomadic culture is the norm. Nearly half of the country's population lives this lifestyle.

The Scottish tour for Zippos kicked off in Victoria Park, Glasgow and after Elgin will travel to Peterhead, Banff, Inverurie, Stonehaven, Arbroath, Kirkintilloch and Ayr.

Zippos Circus Founder, Martin Burton, said: “The show celebrates the circuses' nomadic way of life. For centuries, generations of artists have wandered from town to town to entertain and enthral people.”

The show will also feature the legendary motorbike act Globe of Death from Brazil.

There's also fast juggling, knife throwing and whip cracking from the Czech Republic, and fearless feats of daredevil aerial artistry from UK talent Jackie.

The high-energy acrobatics come from the Kenyan Timbuktu Tumblers, and there is a Wheel of Death act from Columbia.

Moroccan-born Ibrahim Ludvick will perform a breathtakingly elegant routine on a vertical pole. Ludvick from the Czech Republic has a fantastic Rola Rola act.

There's a nail-biting Swinging Trapeze from Spain plus Ukrainian dancers Diana and Sophia.

UK comedy star Whimmie Walker is the man to get everyone laughing.

Acrobatics, aerial acts and comedy – three for the price of one from inspirational Brazilian artist Paulo Dos Santos. Despite the challenge of standing at just over one metre tall, he always delivers a sensational display of skill and daring.

The cast will perform 10 shows during their six day stop in Elgin with afternoon and evening performances every day apart from the opening Thursday and closing Tuesday when there will just be one show.
