THE LGBTQ+ community is inviting everyone to enjoy the second Pride in Moray event - in Forres.

Following the inaugural Pride festival in Elgin last summer, organisers including David Harrison are looking forward to a bigger and better celebration this summer.

He said: “We are thrilled the second Pride in Moray event is being held at Grant Park. It’s a chance for LGBTQ+ individuals, allies, and the broader community to promote equality, inclusivity and positivity. The first event was a huge success, and this year’s will be even better. There will be a variety of activities, music, and entertainment, making it a fun and memorable experience for all.”

Pride in Moray celebrates diversity and shows support for the LGBTQ+ community. Attendees make connections, learn about other lifestyles and help create a more accepting society. Grant Park was chosen because it is spacious and can accommodate a significant number of attendees, it is easily accessible by public transport for people from all over the region and has a history of hosting cultural and community events.

David said: “We will create a safe and affirming environment where members of the LGBTQ+ community can come together to celebrate their identities. We hope to move the event around different parts of Moray each year so watch this space!”

Last year’s event was well-attended with a gathering on Elgin High Street then a parade to Cooper Park for a ‘Pride Village’ and marketplace. This year’s will feature a wide range of entertainment suitable for all ages. As well as stalls held by local businesses plus food and drink vendors, there will be performances from local theatre groups, drag acts and much more.

“Entertainers will interact with the public,” said David, “and put a smile on everyone’s face!”

Grant Park helped promote the first Pride in Moray last year when Rainbow flags were hoisted at its flagpoles. There was also a fundraising coffee morning at Forres Town Hall.

“The community was thrilled to see the flags flying,” said David. “They created a sense of visibility and support for the LGBTQ+ community. The coffee morning was also a huge success, with many attendees expressing gratitude for having a welcoming space to socialize and connect. It helped foster a sense of belonging, and many attendees felt empowered to continue advocating for LGBTQ+ rights.”

Pride in Moray will be held from 1-8pm on Saturday, September 2. David hopes as many people as possible attend.

He finished: “Together we can create a more accepting and diverse community where everyone is valued and respected!”
