FRIENDS and neighbours helped celebrate a Forres grandmother’s 100th birthday.

Joan Faville’s grandson Elliot Oldfield, a local ROV pilot, helped organise a party attended by around 20 people at her home in Springfield Court.

The centenarian said: “I had a fabulous day!

“The people in Forres are always so friendly and obliging - I was made to feel at home here straight away.”

Joan’s son-in-law, former RAF serviceman John Oldfield, confirmed she followed him and his wife Julien to Forres from Gloucester 25 years ago, after the death of her husband Gerald.

John explained: “Joan’s career was with the civil service and she worked in munitions in Birmingham during the Second World War. She also has a son in Southampton and she’s always been special to us all. She never thinks of herself, just everyone!”

He added: “Joan was overwhelmed during the celebrations.

“Everyone shared bubbly and cake, and Joan showed off her card from the Queen.”

And on the secret to such a long life, Joan keeps it simple: “Determination,” she said. “And hard work.”
