A LOCAL man photographed a social gathering at the beach to show people apparently breaking lockdown regulations.

During the recent cold snap, clinical psychologist David Johnson was shocked to see the group of 11 hold hands and form a circle near the car park on the back shore at Findhorn.

He said: “The photograph of unmasked people in physical contact was taken at 11.18am at the beach end of Dunes Road on Tuesday, February 9.

“Findhorn is generally very busy, but I had not seen such a group before. It is reasonable to assume that the people had travelled there using two vehicles in the adjacent parking area.

“It was such flagrant disregard for the current guidance, exhibited in a popular area for walking and exercise, and was wholly unacceptable.”

At the time, Scottish Government coronavirus guidance stated that only members of an individual or extended household can meet outdoors for sport, exercise or social interaction.

Mr Johnson reported the incident, despite not knowing any of the people involved.

He said: “I sent the photo to the police, but have not heard back from them.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson from the media office in Glasgow confirmed officers made enquiries. However, no-one was traced and there were no further complaints about any Covid-19 breaches in the area.

He added: “Police have also been making regular patrols, again with no further complaints. We would remind people of the legislation and ask everyone to do the right thing to stop the spread of the virus. Anyone wishing to report any potential ongoing breaches of the legislation can contact police on 101 or via our online form.”

Local Police Inspector, Kerry Rigg, indicated that the matter is still being investigated: “The matter is in hand and enquires are ongoing to identify those involved to establish full circumstances and take any proportionate action required.”
