A local business spanning five decades and three generations has been nominated for a national award.

Tom Ross and Sons Funeral Directors of Orchard Road are finalists in the Scottish Funeral Awards to be held at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, Glasgow on August 18.

Managing director, Callum Ross, is thrilled with the recognition.

He said: “Winning would not only provide external validation but also serve as a resounding recognition of all the hard work, dedication, and the exceptional level of service our team provide to our clients and their families.”

He added: “We take immense pride in the job we do, and it is more than just a profession to us; it is a true vocation.”

Callum is the third Ross to run the business that started in Forres in 1978, following in the footsteps of his father Brian and grandfather Tom.

The firm acquired David M Ellen Funeral Directors in Nairn in 1988, allowing them to extend the business’s reach into the highlands.

In 1989, Tom Ross opened service rooms in Forres to provide a dedicated space for grieving families to celebrate the lives of their loved one’s in the way they choose.

Funerals are organised across all religions and cultures, including humanist and civil ceremonies.

The chapel on Orchard Road seats up to 200 mourners.

A private family room is available for attendees to gather prior to services.

A live streaming option is also available for those physically unable to attend.

Last year, Tom Ross opened service rooms in Nairn, replicating the model to provide a familiar and comforting environment for families in the neighbouring town.

“We proudly uphold strong traditional values but we also recognise the importance of embracing a modern approach,” said Callum.

“We strive to adapt and evolve to meet the ever changing needs of our clients.

“By combining the wisdom of our heritage with a forward-thinking mindset, we try to remain tailored to the individual wishes of each family we serve.”

The Scottish Funeral Awards recognise hard working business owners ensure customers are offered fair and exceptional service during the most difficult time of their lives.

A panel of independent, industry specialist judges assess the finalists’ portfolio and supporting statement before deciding who the winners are.

An event spokesperson added: “Our Gala Final will be a grand celebration of the very best within the Scottish Funeral Industry, with the winners being announced on the night!”
