AN infrastructure project at a local beach has received a £10,000 donation from a Fochabers-based charity.

The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation has contributed the funding towards the Findhorn beach steps renovation being organised by The Findhorn Village Conservation Company (FVCC).

FVCC secretary Cathy Low confirmed eight sets of steps along the north shore to the east beach car park are being replaced.

She said: “The beach steps aspect of the project are now complete. We are now working on the boardwalks to further improve access to the beach.

“We are very grateful to the Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation for their generous support, along with our funders. Also, for the generosity of the public and local businesses which have allowed us to deliver the project this summer.”

FVCC have received positive feedback from locals and visitors.

Sarah Rollo, who manages the foundation, said: “The previous steps stood firm for more than 40 years, helping thousands of people to access this incredible 1.5km stretch of Moray coastline.

“The steps were in need of considerable refurbishment and it has been wonderful to see people getting behind this campaign.

“That has included support from local organisations, residents, holidaymakers, funders, volunteers from 39 Engineer Regiment and people from across the local area.”

She added: “The foundation is delighted to support this work. Congratulations to the volunteers who have worked so hard to make this happen.”
