A NEW BBC Alba documentary gives an insight into the life of 10-year-old international fashion model Alanna who swaps beautiful Barra for bustling Barcelona.

Alanna regularly swaps time on the crofts and beaches of Barra for the high-fashion buzz of Barcelona.

Mango, River Island and Zara are just three of an extensive list of global fashion brands Alanna has worked with since being spotted by the UK’s biggest children’s modelling agency, Kids London.

This Christmas Day documentary, produced by Barra-based Littleday Productions, gives an insight into how Alanna makes the long journey from the islands to Barcelona for her shoots and also what life is like in the modelling world.

One minute she’s playing football with her classmates or helping with the animals on her dad’s croft, the next she’s jumping on a plane to do a shoot in Barcelona.

Taking off from the iconic Barra Beach, Alanna lands in Glasgow and transfers to London before travelling on to the hustle and bustle of the Catalan city to shoot European fashion campaigns.

While showing the challenges involved in living on a tiny island, this fascinating story shows that even living somewhere perceived by many as remote does not curtail the exciting opportunities for one young girl.

The documentary also hears from her parents and close family, who are massively supportive of their daughter’s burgeoning modelling career.

While she still has to keep up with her schoolwork, Alanna’s quick success has made her the face of many international brands.

Barraigh gu Barcelona airs on BBC Alba today at 8.30pm and will be available on BBC iPlayer for 30 days after.

BBC Alba is available on the following platforms: Sky 117 (Scotland)/Sky 169 (rest of UK); Freeview/You View 7 (Scotland only); Virgin Media 120 (Scotland), Virgin Media 161 (rest of UK); Freesat 109; BBC iPlayer.
