YOUNG people are being invited to two free film making workshops at Bogton.

Following successful sessions at Transition Town Forres’ (TTF) Environmental Education and Healthy Living Centre during the summer, social cinema group Film Forres is looking for participants aged 10-16-years-old to attend from 10am-4pm on Sunday, October 16 and Sunday, November 20.

The workshops will be tutored by BBC-trained, Tim Flood, and former teacher and freelance film editor, Brian Hill.

Tim said: “We were delighted with the success of the holiday workshops when 16 young people produced around 20 short films. They were mostly the result of exercises helping them to learn about camera framing and position, shot sequencing, continuity editing, adding sound and evaluating the end product. They included a longer film that promoted TTF and a short film in the crime genre.”

There are 10 places on each upcoming workshop which will demonstrate how to plan and make films, edit and upload on mobile devices.

“Mostly we will use iPads,” said Tim, “however, we may introduce professional equipment including a Panasonic 4k broadcast-ready camera.”

Film Forres has also recently started six teacher training sessions at Anderson’s Primary School.

Tim finished: “Deputy Head at Andersons, Mr Iain Lunan, has supported their delivery. The feedback so far from nine participating teachers has been excellent! We are improving literacy in the classroom by providing a rich and simple teaching resource which benefits learners across all abilities.”
