Fraud in the North East has doubled in the wake of coronavirus, Police Scotland are warning.

Between April and June the number of reported fraud incidents in the region stood at 313.

That's a 100% increase from the 156 reported over the same period last year.

The force states that criminals are exploiting COVID-19 to commit crimes online and over the phone

Detective Sergeant John Lumsden said: "We’re seeing an ever increasing variety and sophistication of scams often targetting the most vulnerable members of our society."

If you believe you have been a victim of fraud, please report it to Police Scotland by phoning 101.
