A FORRES charity shop has raised another £12,000 for local health causes.

Volunteers from Forres Cancer Support at 48 High Street presented cheques for £6000 each to representatives from CLAN Cancer Support and Marie Curie raised via sales of donated items sold this year.

Cancer Support volunteer Sheila Campbell confirmed the shop accepts donations of products such as bric-a-brac, clothing, shoes, bedding, music and toys.

She said: “Without the generous donations we wouldn’t have our little shop so to everyone who donates: please keep doing it!”

Clan Cancer Support is based at 227 High Street, Elgin. It offers a drop-in from Monday-Thursday from 10am-4pm. Its services include: emotional support and counselling; complementary therapies; nutrition, health and wellbeing support; dedicated children and family services; support groups; and a walking group. Accommodation for people affected by cancer - Clan Haven at Aberdeen - is open 24/7, 365-days-a-year.

Clan has drop in centre in the Masonic Hall at 3 High Street, Forres on every second Friday from 1.30-3.30pm. The most recent was on December 1.

Marie Curie provides hospice care, support over the phone, and campaigns for a better end of life for all by sharing research to change the system. Last year, their services helped more than 69,000 people living with a terminal illness and their families. The local office is at Marr House, Beechwood Business Park, Inverness.

Sheila said: “We donated to Macmillan Cancer Support for over 15 years and decided to contribute to other worthy causes.

“We put a list up in our shop for our volunteers to vote for who to donate to instead. Eight out of ten of us said Marie Curie and Clan.

“We will keep doing so until we can’t!”

Forres Cancer Support is entirely staffed by unpaid volunteers.

“We all enjoy working here,” said Sheila.”It’s a happy and joyful shop. Everyone is welcome to come in for a look.”

She finished: “Love and thanks to Mrs Jean Mackenzie for her dedication to the shop. God bless her from all of the girls.”
