ONE of the two men arrested for allegedly assaulting several passengers on the Inverness-Aberdeen train has been remanded in custody.

Michael Tait (23) made no plea when he appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday.

His next appearance will be at the same court within the next eight days.

The other man, Andrew Tait (55), is due to appear on petition in Elgin later today.

Between them the pair have been charged with nine counts of assault, plus counts of breaching the peace and obstructing the police.

The 6:14pm train from Inverness to Aberdeen was approaching Forres during Saturday evening when the incident occurred.

A Police Scotland statement said: "Emergency services were alerted at around 6.35pm to an altercation that had taken place involving numerous people, and attended Forres Railway Station.

"The men were subsequently arrested and charged in connection and enquiries are ongoing in conjunction with British Transport Police in relation to others involved.

"Thank you to those who have assisted with our enquiries already."
