A MORAY sex offender who breached strict conditions imposed by a court in a bid to prevent further offending by him has been fined £1275.

Sheriff Sara Matheson was told that when police checked on 34-year-old Alistair Mackintosh at his home in Brodie Place, Forres on May 27 last year they seized his mobile. It was then that they discovered three contraventions of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told Mackintosh, who was convicted of sexual offences in February 2018, had been placed on the Sex Offender's Register for 10 years and had the SOPO for five years.

Fiscal depute Pauline Gair said the detectives discovered that he had created profiles for three social media platforms.

Emails he had sent through one site had been used since March 2021, Mrs Gair added.

Under the terms of the order, he should have notified the police or his supervising officers of what he had signed up to.

Defence solicitor Matthew O'Neill told the court: "Those monitoring him had been told the full details of the more normal social media accounts he had. But he misunderstood the significance of these ones because he was not interacting with people. There was no issue with the material he accessed.

"He has learned a huge lesson from this matter."
