1st Forres Scout Group delivering Christmas cards in town for 40p until last collection on December 18
FORRES’ own Christmas post makes a welcome return this year thanks to volunteers of all ages.
All of the children, teenagers and adults involved with 1st Forres Scout Group, and their families, are picking up, sorting and delivering cards in the town for just 40p to raise funds for their activities next year.
Group secretary Louise Berry confirmed their post boxes will be available at Mackenzie and Cruikshank, Lidl, Tesco, the High Street Coop, Wright's Home Hardware, Forres House Community Centre, K’s Cafe and Morrisons at Fleurs until Monday, December 18.
Cards must be placed in a clearly addressed envelope.
The post boxes will be removed then and the Scouts will deliver the mail after that.
Mrs Berry said: “Almost all of our deliveries are done on foot by our young people, their families and volunteers. We only deliver in the town and not to any of the outlying areas such as Dyke, Brodie, Mundole or Kinloss.
“We rely on volunteers to help with emptying boxes, sorting cards and delivering them. All our young people take part in some way from the Beavers stamping the envelopes to the Explorers delivering around the town.
“We are very fortunate with the support we get from the community.”
The scout post raised more than £1000 for their funds last Christmas.
Early next year, 1st Forres Scouts are attending the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ pantomime at Eden Court.
“Some of the money raised may go to funding that,” said Mrs Berry. “Ice cream at the theatre is an expensive treat!”
Postal proceeds will certainly be used for repairing, replacing and upgrading kit, as well as towards the upkeep of the Bank Lane Scout Hut and its associated energy and running costs.
Mrs Berry finished: “As always, we are very grateful for the support from the people of Forres - we enjoy the connection that the post enables!”
