Rotary Club of Forres and Cycling Without Age Scotland to display community trishaw at Grant Park on Sunday

THE COMMUNITY is invited to check out a new means of voluntary transport Forres Rotary plans to launch next month.
Rotary Club of Forres has invested over £8000 in a trishaw to be delivered in mid-April - similar to a rickshaw but with the passengers in front - to offer local people free transport carted by volunteers.
Rotarian Jim McPherson confirmed charity Cycling Without Age Scotland is bringing one to Grant Park on Sunday.
He explained: "We're planning to have a trishaw on display from around 10.30am-3pm to give folk a chance to see one 'in the flesh'. It's planned as an awareness day for prospective pilots to have a wee shot and decide if they want to sign up to our scheme.
"It would also let us show how users - anyone with limited mobility - could benefit when we have our own to offer in Forres."
Forres Rotary hope residents of Meadowlark and Cathay Care Homes, Cameron Court and Varis Court Sheltered Housing will use the trishaw to get out and about.
The scheme will depend on volunteer pilots - the Rotary team hope to sign up around 20 - as well as co-pilots who could sit in with passengers if required. Training in its use and the cycling routes will be offered.
"We have our launch date set for Saturday, April 13," said Jim. "We've asked local primary schools to suggest names for the trishaw and we're looking for a secure storage spot for it. We would ask anyone who can help to get in touch.
"We also need folk who can offer help on a weekly, monthly or occasional basis."
