A 105 litre bottle of 14 year-old whisky - the Guinness Book of Record’s largest bottle of malt in the world - was transported from Tomintoul to The Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh on Wednesday night.

"We decided to get in the professionals rather than make the journey ourselves," said Tomintoul Distillery Director, Robert Fleming. "We like to employ local business and White’s are the biggest in our range - it was a no-brainer. They packaged the bottle very well and there was no damage in transit. It was a very professional job with a very delicate cargo."

The specially commissioned glass bottle contains just over 150 bottles of Malt, donated by the local distillery. It required a specially commissioned bottle, a gigantic cork and oversized label, plus a team of 14 people to fill, close and dress it.

"This was a very different task indeed," said preparation expert, Eric Kleintges of White’s Removals. "It took four of us and a hydraulic ramp to get it off the shelf, then we had to carry it to the back of the truck. We’re all experienced members of staff and used to moving awkward bits of furniture but this was unusual."

White’s Estimator Colin Donald said the company were very grateful for being give the relocation job for such a different item.

The removal team were surprised to be met by TV crews, reporters and photographers when they arrived on the Royal Mile.

"In my 25 year career I’ve never come across anything like this," said Colin. "We’re delighted. Our customer’s happy, so we’re happy."
