NEARLY 200 people felt the long arm of the law during an annual festival that celebrates Scotland’s places.

Forres Police Station on Victoria Road opened up to 180 visitors on Saturday, September 23 – the first time the local constabulary has taken part in Doors Open Day.

Police Inspector for Forres, Lossiemouth and Speyside, Andy Meikleham, confirmed the event organised by PC Steph Bayliss was a “great success”.

He said: “PC Rob Evans was present with his police dogs Ice and Beans - they were the stars of the show! Beans was out in the car park showing off her tracking skills and finding hidden items.

“PC Shand and Special Constable Mair showed attendees around one of our road policing vehicles. Children were able to sit inside and put the blue lights on!”

On arrival, visitors were greeted by PC Bayliss and shown to the cells. They had fingerprints and photographs taken by Police Scotland youth volunteers and could try on police uniforms with the help of public enquiry support assistant Nicola Maclean and PC Kevin Skivington.

PC Steph Bayliss said people attended from all over Moray and there were some tourists too.

She said: “It’s important for the community to meet their local officers. And it’s not every day you get to see inside the cells - that was definitely a highlight for many!”
