A FORRES nail technician who set up business on her own just a year ago has been voted best in the north of Scotland.
Shannon Mason (28) was announced as Best Nail Tech of the Year 2020 at the Scottish Hair and Beauty Industry Awards' virtual ceremony on Sunday, November 29, hosted by STV's Chris Harvey and Nicola McAlley.
Shannon was chosen by a panel of judges who whittled down entries to just three category hopefuls.
The Forres woman impressed the judges with client testimonies, evidence of her work and examples of her use of social media.
Her beautiful nail art creations then clinched the public vote, which decided the winner.
Shannon qualified in 2018 and went self-employed in October last year.
She said: "It's amazing to have won. It's more than I ever expected from my first year in business.
"I went back to college as an adult and this was never really on my radar."
In a difficult year for the industry Shannon said she felt lucky that she worked from home and therefore didn't have salon overheads to consider.
She added: "What was more of a concern to me was how my client base would be affected and picking up where I left off after lockdown. But business has picked up well."
The Aberdeen-based awards are designed to promote best practice within the hair and beauty sector across the north of Scotland.
