FORRES Mechanics have launched an online fundraiser as they aim to generate £90,000 for new floodlights.

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) have informed the Can-Cans that the floodlights at Mosset Park, which have been in place for 40 years, no longer meet regulations.

They will need to be upgraded for Mechanics to retain their Highland League status.

Forres Mechanics committee launched the floodlights fundraising appeal before a 4-1 victory over Deveronvale.

While the club is set to apply for various grants and has organised several fundraising events locally, there will also be a JustGiving page for those wishing to donate.

Don Wright, who is in charge of grant applications for Mechanics, said: "The Mosset Park floodlights are unreliable and no longer fit for purpose.

"They fail to meet the SFA’s minimum requirements for ground licensing. To maintain their Highland League playing status the club have no option but to replace the existing floodlights.

"Plans have been made to install a modern low energy LED system with much improved illumination levels.

"The new floodlights will come at a cost of around £90,000 and, subject to successful fundraising, would be installed next summer.

"In the meantime, applications have been made for grants and a crowdfunding appeal has been set up through JustGiving. Various fundraising events are scheduled for over the winter."

Six events have so far been organised and are set to take place in the coming months.

These include a race night, a Christmas raffle, a coffee morning, a quiz night, a prosecco day and a concert. Ticket details can be found with Sandy Aird by emailing sandy@theretiredgolf.pro.

The online fundraising campaign was launched before Saturday's 4-1 home victory against Deveronvale and more than £500 has already been raised.
