A LOYAL Forres Mechanics supporter is set to jet off on a late-summer holiday after winning the jackpot in the club's lottery.
Stephen Levy, who lives in the town and has supported the club since the 80s, picked up £3000 in the Cans Lotto – and is planning a trip abroad with wife Aileen.
It's the first time that Stephen, who has been taking part in the draw since its inception, has won anything in the lottery.
"I was just lying in the couch, settling in to watch the rugby," he said. "Then I said to Aileen 'I think I've just won £3000!'.
"We haven't been on a nice break since before Covid, so we are going to put it into a holiday fund for late summer, just me and the wife."
Stephen, who is a civil servant working at RAF Lossiemouth, has been taking part in the Cans Lotto as a way of helping boost the club's coffers.
He added: "I've been involved in the lotto since day one and I don't think I've ever won anything – I thought my ticket had been lost!
"I used to attend the games a lot but I've not been able to go to many over the last few years for various reasons, so I'm just doing my bit by taking part in the lotto.
"It's a few pounds a month and a little bit really helps the club.
"I'd never won and then all of a sudden won a big one, so it's worth a stab in the dark if you have a few extra pennies sitting about and are willing to help the club.
"Things are tough for a lot of people, but it's good to help the club and it's a big bonus if you come up trumps like I did!"
Mechanics committee member Sandy Dow added: "It's great to see another local winning the £3000 jackpot.
"It shows the great and strong link that we have within the community."
