FORRES will welcome thousands of visitors to Grant Park on Saturday for the annual Highland games.

Now in its 95th year, the organisers are encouraging everyone to help make the historic event a day to remember.

Over 70 businesses have pledged support with sponsorship or help, and volunteers offering their time, the day offers a fun afternoon for all the family.

Forres and District Pipe Band will announce the start with a parade along High Street and into the games arena where the event flag will be raised for the official opening.

Visitors can expect traditional events from caber tossing to the hammer throw, long jump, high jump and more. There will be craft and artisan food stalls, fairground attractions, a beer tent and food outlets. Highland dancing, solo piping and massed pipe bands will also feature, and new to this year: a solo drumming contest.

Chieftain for 2023 is Jim Lawther, flanked by junior chieftains Maddie Partington and Isaac Swanson, representing Forres Academy.

President of the Forres Highland Games, Fred Davidson, said: “The Forres Highland Games committee works tirelessly all year round to bring this fantastic event to our town.

“However, it would not be possible without the support from our volunteers, sponsors, stallholders and competitors who create the attraction and mean we have a show for people to enjoy.

“It’s once again going to be a great day out and we encourage people to come along. What’s great about the games is that there are events that people can get involved in on the day, and unique to the Forres Games is the message bike race where spectators can turn participants and race the field on an old traditional message bike in hope of lifting the winner’s trophy.

“It’s a lot of fun.”
