Forres Chorale annual autumn concert is on at St John’s Church from 7.30pm on Friday, November 3.

The main item is Howard Goodall’s requiem ‘Eternal Light’ - Goodall is, perhaps, best known as the composer of the theme music for the popular BBC comedy ‘The Vicar of Dibley’.

The composer said: “A modern requiem is one that acknowledges the unbearable loss and emptiness that accompanies the death of loved ones.

“This is a requiem for the living, focussing on the consequences of interrupted lives.”

Chorale conductor, Brian Smith, said: “This challenging work is essentially optimistic; it uses poetic texts in English as well as the Latin of the traditional requiem.

“For the audience, it is a powerful testament to the resilience and hope of the human spirit.”

Other works in the programme include Morten Lauridsen’s ‘Sure on this Shining Night’ and John Rutter’s song ‘We Will Remember’.

The soloists are Valerie Chapman (soprano) and Andrew McIntosh (bass).

Tickets (£7) are available from R & R Urquhart, High Street, Forres, or from organist@stjohnsforres.org.uk.

The Forres Chorale was founded in January 2020 to continue the local tradition of classical choral singing. Concerts are held in Forres and elsewhere in the North East.

The Chorale first performed with young musicians at Inverness Cathedral in March 2020.
