BUSINESSES across the Forres area have signed up to an initiative encouraging people to shop locally.

‘The Magic Tenner’ is taking place in towns across the UK and is organised nationally by traders’ group Totally Locally.

The event launched on October 7 and will run until October 21 and is a chance for independent businesses to encourage people to shop local by offering a £10 product or service.

Locally, it is being coordinated by Forres Area Business Association (FABA) which is promoting offers online and providing participants with promotional materials such as posters and templates for bunting.

Claire Doughty, a director of FABA, said: “Offers are not just limited to businesses in the town centre. We have a number out-of-town including at Logie Steading, Naturally Useful in Rafford and Bee Home Cottage soaps and creams at The Bakehouse in Findhorn.”

She added: “This campaign is also about generating conversation about local suppliers so we’ve been encouraging participating firms to give a shout out to the local businesses they use too.

“FABA had a promotional selfie frame made up by Signed Graphics located at Mundole. It’s about creating a network.”

One business taking part is Mini First Aid Moray, Speyside and Nairn which offers a range of classes for families, training them in basic first aid.

Owner of the franchise, Kayleigh McDine, is offering an interactive kids first aid workshop.

She said: “This campaign is a great way for me to promote what I do. I am using the Tolbooth to hold my sessions, so another organisation is benefitting through my hire. “

She added: “I also love seeing what everyone else is doing and learning more about what is available locally.

“I recently joined FABA after going to a business breakfast they organised and it was so lovely meeting new business people.”
