A LOCAL small business owner has been nominated for an award for the second time since starting up just four years ago.

Shannon Mason - who runs Shannon Mason Nail Artist from her home on Grantown Road - is thrilled to be in the running in the ‘Best Nail Artist’ category at the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards.

She said: “It’s an incredible feeling to have my business recognised as one of the best in the country for a second time! I take great pride in my work and I’m looking forward to celebrating the success of my business at the award ceremony.”

Having qualified as a beauty therapist in 2018 before spending a year focused on nails and opening in 2019, Shannon became a brand ambassador for a professional nail company. She has also appeared in ‘Scratch’ - the UK’s leading nail magazine.

In the event’s 12th year, the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards attract hundreds of entries. They are designed to showcase creative talent, reward those who excel in their field and celebrate the sector at a gala dinner, this year at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel on Sunday October 1.

Shannon last won a title in November 2020.

She said: “Being titled best in the north of Scotland enabled me to draw more attention to my work. I was still within my first year of business and 2020 was a particularly challenging year for small businesses. I was grateful to be in such a fortunate position and watch my business flourish.”

Shannon loves using her creativity to come up with new designs and bring them to life for her clients.

She said: “I also love seeing the transformation in people who take part in my nail biter course. Many first come to me expressing feelings of shame and embarrassment over the habit so it brings me a great deal of satisfaction helping them regain control and seeing their confidence grow.”
