A floating garden crammed with edible plants has been launched upon the waters of the Mosset Burn in Forres.

It's the latest initiative from the Unexpected Garden project which is aiming to both brighten up the town and cultivate some healthy food.

The garden has been sponsored by Biomatrix Water Solutions.

Lisa Shaw from the Forres-based business said: "We are looking forward to seeing the beans grow up the willow tipi, and to seeing the other veggies, herbs and strawberries grow and eventually get harvested for yummy meals, salads, and herbal teas."

Another initiative by Unexpected Garden is centred around the lanes and closes that lead off Forres High Street.

Residents there have been given free edible plants such as potatoes, beans and salad leaves to grow outside their homes.

Meanwhile, those living down lanes that don't receive as much sunlight have been given growing kits for mushrooms and microgreens.

Findhorn Bay Arts officially launched its Unexpected Garden summer programme last Saturday with a community celebration at Orchard Road Studios.

The event brought people together for an afternoon of edible plants.

Music was provided by accordionist Andy Thorburn accompanied by Adam Csenki on fiddle.

Meanwhile, Margot Henderson read a special poem to mark the occasion.

The upcoming summer programme will include spontaneous events where locally grown strawberries and edible plants are handed out to folk.

Things will culminate with a harvest celebration in early September.

Adam Csenki, of Unexpected Garden, said: "It was wonderful to be able to share the launch with our community partners.

"There is much more to come, so do keep an eye open for ways to get involved over the summer, such as our Pop-Up Pots and Strawberry Sunday events.

"We are also looking for more living lanes participants, so if you live down a lane or close off Forres High Street and would like to get involved, just get in touch."

Unexpected Garden is also involved with the Cultivating Connections network, which promotes collaboration with other local growing groups such as Forres in Bloom, Forres Friends of Woods and Fields, Transition Town Forres, Incredible Edible and Forres Orchard.
