Five new coronavirus cases confirmed in Moray

FIVE new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed overnight in Moray, taking the area's total to 62.

That is the joint-largest increase in infections the area has seen on any particular day since the outbreak began.

Another 19 people tested positive across the NHS Grampian region overnight, meaning the area now has 1142 confirmed cases of covid-19.

Aberdeenshire has 403 confirmed cases, with Aberdeen City having 662. Neighbouring Highland council area has 187 cases.

At midnight, there were 98 people in Grampian hospitals with confirmed or suspected coronavirus, with 11 in intensive care.

Scotland-wide, the number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus and died within 28 days passed 2000 overnight. The total now stands at 2007.

A total of 80,275 people have been tested for the virus, with 66,158 negative and 14,117 positive. The number of patients discharged from hospital is 3253.

The message in Scotland remains: Stay home, protect the NHS, save lives.
