RESIDENTS of Forres suffered electrical faults at either end of town last week in unrelated incidents.

Openreach dealt with a loss of internet coverage in the Thornhill and Knockomie areas from the evening of Sunday, February 12 until tea time on Monday February 13 - meanwhile Moray Council is still investigating faulty street lamps across upper Forbeshill which became faulty during the evening of Tuesday, February 14.

An Openreach spokesperson said: “A damaged cable affected broadband services for around 350 homes and businesses in Forres.

“Engineers carried out repair works and restored broadband services on Monday at 5.41pm. We’re sorry for the down time people experienced.”

The spokesman confirmed the damage was caused by a utility company working in the area.

British gas distribution company SGN was investigating a gas leak on adjacent Grantown Road from Thursday, January 26 to Tuesday, February 14.

A company spokesman explained: “We were called to reports of a gas escape which our engineers made safe. The area was regularly monitored until our permanent repairs were completed.”

Meanwhile a number of street lights at Forbeshill are currently on 24/7.

A spokesperson for the local authority confirmed an electrician attended following a report of a fault last Tuesday evening.

He added: “The issue was found to be a faulty cell. The lights were put on to test and will remain on as a safety measure until the fault is fixed which is expected to be within the next week. There is no additional cost to the council associated with the lights remaining on during the daytime. The public can report street light faults through the reporting tab on our website and our team will prioritise these based on urgency.”
