A LOCAL church is hosting a third modern service featuring a praise band at 6.30pm on Sunday, February 6 at 6.30pm.

New attendees are welcome to experience the new style of worship at St Leonard’s Church, launched in November and run by Reverend Donald Prentice and associate Minister Steven Sass, assisted by band leader Chris Neal.

Congregation members operate a sound system and text overlay on video screen with the words of the songs to sing along to.

Rev Prentice said: “The first two services were well attended. Be blessed and feel invited!”

The modern service was started to “address the community’s spiritual needs”. St Leonard’s leadership perceive a need for people from all walks of life to come together and worship God in a different way.

Rev Prentice said: “During the past two years of pandemic and lockdowns, people have had time to reflect on some of the big things in life.”

St Leonard’s Church offers monthly informal gatherings in the evening to encourage young people and families to attend.

Rev Prentice said: “Many who are otherwise engaged on a Sunday morning can worship together at least once-a-month in the evening. Everyone is welcome. If you can or want to play an instrument in the praise band or just sing Christian songs, this is an opportunity. Let’s make a pleasant noise for the Lord!”
