“Don’t dream it, be it …” as recommended by Dr Frank-N-Furter in ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ - being screened at Forres Town Hall on Saturday night.

Film Forres and Moray Operatic and Dramatic Society (MODS) are organising a celebration of the 1975 musical/comedy/horror, encouraging attendees to “dress to impress” and sing-along to the action.

MODS secretary Fiona Grant said: “Step into a world of glitz, glamour, and spine-tingling excitement at the MODS’ cinematic evening!

“Join us for a thrilling screening of the cult classic, where the silver screen comes alive with infectious energy and unforgettable performances. Get ready to dance the ‘Time Warp’ and immerse in a night of sensational entertainment!”

The screenplay was co-written by Richard O'Brien, who is also a member of the cast. The production is a tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the 1930s through to the early 1960s. Along with O'Brien, the film stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick.

The story centres on a young couple whose car breaks down in the rain near a castle, where they search for help. The castle is occupied by strangers in elaborate costumes celebrating. They discover the head of the house is a mad scientist who creates a living muscle-man named Rocky. Frank seduces the couple and it is finally revealed he is actually an alien transvestite from the planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania.

Costume designer Sue Blane claims her creations affected punk rock fashion trends such as torn fishnet stockings and colourfully dyed hair.

Following the film’s release and initial disappointing reaction, audience members returned to cinemas, talking back to the screen, dressing as the characters, and spawning similar performance groups. Live amateur shadow-casts still act out the film 49 years later.

“It’s great fun if a bit risqué,” said Fiona. “Experience the magic of theatre on the big screen, whether you're a die-hard fan or discovering Rocky Horror for the first time, this event promises sheer delight and exhilaration!

Attendees are encouraged to wear fancy dress. MODS will be holding a raffle and town hall owners Forres Area Community Trust is running a cashless bar (card only).

The next Film Forres Saturday screening is on June 15.

Film Forres development manager Ruth Whitfield said: ‘The Great Escaper’ is based on a true story. In the summer of 2014, Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) escapes from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy commemorating the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France.

“It also celebrates his enduring love with his wife Rene (Glenda Jackson). It's moving and awe-inspiring to see these two British icons together.”

She said: “You can bring nibbles and tipples! Sit downstairs at a table with your friends and family, or upstairs on the balcony.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own booze but there is also a licensed bar.

“The following over-18’s film will be ‘The Old Oak’ on September 14 but Film Forres Family Fridays continue throughout the summer.

“We welcome everyone - come along yourself or with pals.”
