FAMILIES, particularly those with skateboarders, are invited to a fundraising film night at Forres Town Hall.

Local charity, Forres Skate Park Initiative (FSPI), has organised a movie double bill starting at 6.30pm on Friday, March 24, to raise money for the project which is gaining momentum via its recently launched supporters’ charter.

FSPI development officer, Shaun Moat, hopes as many people as possible enjoy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile (PG, 116m) and A Land for Everyone on the big screen supplied by Film Forres.

He said: “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is a fun new film which families will love. A Land for Everyone follows skateboard and adventure photographer, Hannah Bailey, and skateboarder, Lyndsay McLaren in the Highlands. We want to show their documentary to encourage more girls to give skateboarding a try. Just look at Sky Brown – she won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and became a world champion aged just 14 when she won gold in park skateboarding at the World Championships in the United Arab Emirates last month. Maybe our next Olympian could be from Forres!”

Musical comedy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile features the creature in a house in New York. He enjoys helping the Primm family and playing with the neighbourhood kids. However, Mr Grumps and his cat do not like crocodiles so Lyle must prove that he is not as bad as they think.

A Land For Everyone is a short film documenting the Highland’s influence on Hannah Bailey and Lyndsay McLaren’s photography and skateboarding.

Tickets for the screenings will cost just £1 per child and £2 per adult – family tickets for two adults and two children will be priced at £5. They can be purchased at www.forresskatepark.org.uk/shop or on the door on the night.

There will also be a raffle.

“We are still gathering raffle prizes,” said Shaun. “So far we have skateboards from supporters in Aberdeen and a nice bottle for adults. We will also have sweets and chocolates but are hoping to have more on offer.”

So far, 24 organisations have signed up to the FSPI supporters’ charter including Café 1496, Forres Coffee House, Brodie Countryfare and The Carisbrooke Hotel.

Shaun said: “This is open to anyone who wants to show support including schools. Visit www.forresskatepark.org.uk to sign up.”

He finished: “ Please come along and enjoy a family night out! Every penny we raise goes directly into the funds.”
