MEMBERS of local churches have bid a fond farewell to a cleric who has lived and worked in the area for more than 30 years.

On Sunday, August 20, the congregation of St John’s Church joined with clergy and members of other churches in the Diocese of Moray, Ross and Caithness to say goodbye to Canon Robin Forrest, who has left Moray to be closer to family in central Scotland and Wales.

Church spokesman Alasdair Joyce confirmed Canon Forrest’s family attending added a personal touch to the event.

He said: “Robin’s legacy of service, devotion, and harmony will resonate within the hearts of all those he had touched. As he moves on to new horizons, Robin will forever remain a part of the spiritual tapestry of St John’s.”

Canon Forrest was first employed at St John’s as Rector in 1979.

Mr Joyce said: “Over two decades, he nurtured and guided the spiritual lives of his congregation, becoming a pillar of strength and wisdom.”

Canon Forrest assumed the role of Dean of the Diocese during this time. Following his retirement in 1998, he moved to Cummingston, from where he continued to play an active part in the Scottish Episcopal Church. He continued worshipping at Holy Trinity, Elgin and later, at St John’s.

Bishop Mark Strange attended St John’s on August 20, offering warm words to honour Canon Forrest before he moves out of the Diocese. His speech reflected the respect and admiration shared by the congregation and the Diocese.
