Moray Council has extended the deadline for submitting ideas to help shape its local development plan.

The plan helps shape what should be built and where.

As such, it's vital for providing places to live, attracting new jobs and investment, regenerating town centres and protecting both the historic and natural environment.

Ideas need to be sent to the council by the end of this month.

This information will be collated into a report presented to councillors for consideration next March.

Following that there will then be what's known as a 'call for sites' during autumn 2024.

This will provide an opportunity for individuals and organisations to let the council know about any land or buildings in Moray which could be redeveloped between now and 2038.

All of this will feed into the preparation of a proposed local plan, which will be subject to consultation, thereby allowing more opportunities for public input.

Once the local development is adopted it will form the basis of any planning decisions that the council makes.

Councillor David Gordon, who chairs the planning committee, said: "The local development plan helps us to shape and meet Moray’s needs for housing and employment land and puts plans in place to safeguard and enhance our environment.

"It also allows us to plan for the infrastructure that is needed to support development.

"It is key to the area’s future prosperity and to the aspirations of our communities."

Cllr Gordon (Speyside/Glenlivet, Conservative) added: "I encourage anyone with an interest in what is happening around them to feed into this crucial exercise."

In addition, community groups are also being encouraged to register their interest in preparing what are termed 'local place plans'.

These are intended to give people the opportunity set out proposals for the development and use of land where they live.

For this, community groups should contact localplaceplans@moray.gov.uk and include details about themselves as well as a map of the area.

Council officers will then get back to the groups to discuss both the process and deadlines.
