A DALLAS woman has been making personal protective equipment for Moray's front line nurses and carers in the battle with coronavirus.

Carol Brown has so far made more than 40 face masks and 14 scrubs for people working at Meadowlark Care Home in Forres and Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin.

Carol, who works at Chimes, started making scrubs after a friend put her in touch with Elizabeth Stewart, who was doing the same.

The two have since formed a partnership, with Carol making scrubs and delivering them to Elizabeth who then passes them on to a local hub.

Carol said: "Elizabeth is an easy woman to get along with and we have made a friendship out of this. We hit it off straight away and I've been churning away doing as much as I can do.

"I've been working on them since the start of lockdown and will continue to do so until I go back to work.

"Each scrub takes a couple of hours to make and I can make about six face masks per hour. I have material and a workshop because I like making soft furnishings as a hobby.

"I started making face masks when the Scottish Government said we might need to start wearing them as I thought we might need more.

"A nurse in the village asked personally for PPE so I made her some and I made 24 face masks for a businessman who needed some for his company.

"I got a pattern from a friend and made one mask as a sample. I've got people doing the cutting for me, too, so I can focus on sewing."

The help Carol has been getting sums up the community spirit in Dallas, she added.

Not only have locals offered to help with the cutting out, they have also been quick to donate old duvets which have been used to make scrubs.

"That's what the village is like – you only have to ask," Carol said.

"Dallas is a really good community and I have been helped with donations."

People in Dallas are invited to donate goods to Carol – duvets must be clean, made of cotton and be washable at 90 degrees.
