PUPILS and staff at a local school were determined to safely continue with their Christmas traditions around the Covid-19 restrictions.

Like all schools in Moray, Dallas Primary are bound by a number of restrictions put in place by Moray Council over the Christmas period, but Head teacher Mairi Grant ensured the school community enjoyed safe festive cheer.

She said: “Our celebrations were not the same this year but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t still have lots of fun!

“We enjoyed our annual decoration day, made Christingles and advent wreaths, and even created a nativity movie. Our P7s planned a cracking party with restriction-compliant games and dances, and we enjoyed our final day of term outdoors by the fire pit.”

Dallas also had a dress festive day featuring a variety of Christmas jumpers and dress. Pupils made decorations - without invited guests this year - and decorated the school Christmas tree with their crafts.

Mrs Grant said: “P7 made fantastic wreaths this year because they were unable to choose and cut down our tree from Dallas Estates!”

Everyone also enjoyed a pantomime, this year shown on DVD.

Mrs Grant said: “We watched Out of the Darkness Theatre Group’s fabulous panto Dick McWhittington on our big screen. It was fantastic! All Forres ASG schools received a copy.”

Pupils acted their nativity outdoors and in front of a green screen. The play was filmed and directed by P7 and featured hand-painted background scenes.

The P7s also hosted the school Christmas party where pupils danced without partners to standards including Macarena, Cha-Cha Slide and Cotton Eye Joe. Santa even made an appearance by video link and left a surprise in the school woods for the children.

Finally, the pupils also found a safe way to continue their annual gift giving to the village community, painting stones and leaving them with a festive message on the doorsteps of every house on the main street.
