RECORD numbers visited a historic photographic display held in the town centre.

The Tolbooth hosted a showcase of days gone curated by building custodians Forres Heritage Trust (FHT), featuring a new state-of-the-art projector as well as a donated Forres Academy yearbook from 1928.

Event organiser Ross Dalziel was delighted to welcome so many attendees.

He said: "We were absolutely thrilled with the number of people who visited the Tolbooth over the four-day exhibition. It was definitely the busiest we've had and it is reassuring to know that there is still an appetite for it."

Ross, who has volunteered for FHT for nine years, added: "Being able to play films from years gone by was a fabulous addition and something that we plan to do at future exhibitions.

"The film was 'Memories of Forres 1937-1938', filmed by the late David R Forrester who owned Harrold's the Chemist on the high street. The pictures from Forres Academy also sparked interest."

FHT chairman George Alexander is grateful to Ross and fellow curator Ray Mills for maintaining and organising FHT's extensive photo archive.

He said: "This exhibition was the first time many of the visitors got to see our renovated courtroom - a stunning location for the new technology which allowed us to play the old films on a huge drop-down screen. It is a fitting addition."

The next event at the Tolbooth is Moray Doors Open Day on September 21, the first time visitors will be able to get a glimpse of the old police office and cells which have also been renovated by volunteers.

Nelson’s Tower, which is also looked after by the Trust, is open from 2-4pm every day until October.
