MORAY’S leading politicians are worried about local job losses following news of a lost business contract.

Kura contact centre at Forres Enterprise Park has confirmed Scotland’s leading energy company will not be renewing its contact with the outsourced service provider.

A Kura spokesperson explained: “Scottish Power retendered their front office customer services during 2021. During this process we were unsuccessful. We are currently consulting with our people who are impacted by this decision.

“We continue to be a long standing and valued partner of Scottish Power for a range of services.”

Moray’s MP Douglas Ross is concerned there may be job losses after the company lost the contract to Capita.

He said: “The loss of this crucial contract is deeply concerning for the workforce in Forres. This number of jobs means much more in a community like Forres and every avenue must be explored to protect them.

“I urge Kura to reassure staff who will understandably be anxious about potentially losing their jobs.”

Capita’s offices are in Glasgow and the north-west of England. Scottish Power have carried out similar retendering programmes throughout Scotland.

Mr Ross added: “Employees are already feeling the effects of an ever increasing cost-of-living crisis.

“Losing jobs would be a bitter blow to families, as well as the wider local economy.”

Both Mr Ross and Moray MSP Richard Lochhead have contacted Kura to see what can be done to protect local jobs.

Mr Lochhead said: “I will continue to work with the companies involved and public agencies to ensure staff affected are being supported. I will also put pressure on all parties to try to save jobs in Forres.”
