A MORAY Council liaison officer is making regular visits to a travellers’ encampment behind Forres Enterprise Park.

A small group of travellers left the site on May 25 but shortly afterwards another larger group occupied the small plot on the soakaway for Southside Road behind land owned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).

There are now families in caravans on either side of the road.

On the first group, a HIE spokesman said: “The original travellers left of their own accord. There was a car left behind, garden waste and rubbish, which was disappointing."

HIE have received complaints from members of the public about the mess.

On the current group at the Enterprise Park, the spokesperson added: "We share those concerns and are in contact with our agents, Police Scotland and Moray Council with a view to resolving the situation and instigating enforcement proceedings.”

Meanwhile, the council has provided the travellers with toilet facilities.

A local authority spokeswoman said: “We’ve been providing support in accordance with the Scottish Government’s guidance on supporting gypsy/traveller communities during Covid-19.”
