Community offered chance to have a say in future of Forres and Moray at interactive drop-in in Town Hall to inform Moray Council’s Local Development Plan

THE community is invited to influence the future of the region.

Ahead of Moray Council’s Local Development Plan 2027, the local authority is running a drop-in event at Forres Town Hall on Saturday, March 4 from 10am-3pm, showcasing projects and investment across the area.

Planning officer, Emma Gordon, hopes as many locals as possible input projects including the Town Centre Improvement Plan and Town Centre Capital Fund, Forres Area Conservation and Heritage Scheme, Forres Active Travel schemes, Mannachie Park Masterplan and housing developments at Dallas Dhu.

She said: “This is an opportunity to shape how we live, work and relax, as well as find out more about projects and investment. Everyone is welcome to the exhibition and community mapping sessions manned by our staff.”

The plan sets out how the council sees the area developing, providing s guidance as to how much and where growth is proposed for land use and sets out policies used to determine planning applications. Facilitated sessions at the town hall will inform an update.

“Community mapping sessions are an opportunity to get into more detailed discussions,” said Mrs Gordon. “They allow us to map ambitions and priorities. Examples include improving travel, enhancing biodiversity, improving the economy and supporting health.”

Attendees are welcome to sessions from: 10.30-10.50am then 1-1.20pm: Economy, town centre, employment, skills and jobs; 10.50-11.10am then 1.20-1.40pm: Greenspaces, open space, play and recreational provision; 11.10-11.30am and 1.40-2pm: Climate change, adapting to the impacts, reducing carbon and biodiversity; 11.30-11.50am and 2-2.20pm: Transport - active travel connections and public transport; 11.50am-12.10pm and 2.20-2.40pm: Housing, town centre living, vacant and derelict land, land for housing; and 12.10-12.30pm and 2.40-3pm: Community facilities, amenities and cultural venues.

Similar events are being held across Moray until September in Elgin, Buckie, Keith, Lossie, Aberlour and Dufftown.
