A damaged stretch of track at Alves sparked the temporary closure of the Inverness-Aberdeen line yesterday morning.

Network Rail Scotland engineers confirmed that a culvert which allows water to flow under the track had collapsed.

Announcing the disruption yesterday, Network Rail Scotland said: "We're on-site at Alves Junction, near Elgin.

"A collapsed culvert on the track means a temporary line closure between Inverness and Aberdeen is in place disrupting services."

Passengers were transported between Forres and Elgin by bus while the disruption was in place.
