A LOCAL development group is using a £2250.17 grant from the Co-op Local Community Fund to buy equipment for a new project.

Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) is upgrading the kitchen at its town hall base to enhance a range of activities including new lunch club, 'Meet and Eat'.

FACT development manager Debbie Herron confirmed the kitchen will also be used to prepare monthly community meals.

She said: "We will buy additional items that are needed to make the kitchen fully functioning, to help meet and eat events and coffee mornings.

"We worked with the Co-op during the pandemic, re-distributing food recovery items through Moray Food Plus. Having this continued support by the local branch, will make all the difference to the facilities we can offer in the future from Forres Town Hall."

The Co-op Local Community Fund supports projects across the UK. Every time members buy selected branded products and services, the Co-op give local causes a helping hand. Projects are displayed in store and online, so members can choose which they want to support.

The town hall kitchen already has some equipment for events and FACT has received donations including crockery and other items from supporters Julie Michael, Philps Fine Foods and David Yeadon, as well as vintage tea sets and cake stands from Moray Waste Busters.

"The FACT team and volunteers are doing an inventory," added Debbie, "and deciding what else is needed.

"Forres Town Hall is open for business again and has a packed programme of activities that all are welcome to attend."
