One hundred classical music fans attend free Forres Chorale concert at St John's Church

AROUND 100 people attended a free concert in a local spiritual venue.

Forres Chorale rescheduled their original inaugural performance at St John’s Episcopal Church date of May 2020 to Saturday, March 19.

Musical director Brian Smith confirmed the group was founded in January 2020 and has been rehearsing at St John’s every week since last November.

He said: “Our 75 minute concert was a great success! St. John’s was filled to capacity and treated to a varied programme. The Chorale performed excellently and Samuel Nealon, a young cellist from Elgin, played with confidence and style. His solos were warmly applauded.”

Choral music featured, from Howard Goodall’s 23rd Psalm (The Vicar of Dibley theme) to opera choruses by Handel and Mozart. The Chorale also sang ‘A Ukranian Folk Lament’ and Mozart’s Voyagers’ Chorus was repeated as an encore.

Forres Chorale’ s next event is to sing Choral Evensong with St John’s Church Choir for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.

Brian finished: “We will now learn music for the Jubilee and for our autumn concert on October 29. The programme includes Chilcott’s ‘Dances of Time’ and the popular ‘Requiem’ by as Faure.
