A grant funding organisation set up to alleviate poverty in Scotland has made a significant donation to a lifesaving charity in Findhorn.
The Robertson Trust has handed over a cheque for £2270 to Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation, having double-match-funded the proceeds from MIRO's Burns supper back in January.
MIRO chairman, John Low, thanked everyone who helped make the annual event a success this year.
He said: "I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the evening such a success, including supporters who generously donated raffle prizes.
"On behalf of all of our MIRO volunteers, I would particularly like to thank the Robertson Trust and Edrington for their very generous donation which will help us to maintain our operational capacity and ultimately save lives."
As well as providing entertainment and food for supporters, the annual supper is a key fundraising event for MIRO. This year, the funds were boosted by the donation from The Robertson Trust and Edrington.
The Robertson Trust was founded in 1961 by sisters, Elspeth, Agnes and Ethel. They donated their shares to the trust for charitable purposes.
The family business now operates as global company Edrington, one of Scotland’s largest private companies and owner of whisky brands.
The sisters’ generosity enables the trust to use dividends from its controlling shareholding in Edrington for the benefit of Scotland’s people and communities.
MIRO is a dedicated sea rescue service covering Findhorn bay and its approaches as well as the inshore waters of the Moray Firth between Burghead and Nairn. It is manned entirely by unpaid volunteers who give up their time to train, raise funds and save lives.
Every penny donated to Moray Inshore Rescue goes directly into the charity funds. Find out more about MIRO at www.morayinshorerescue.org.
John added: "This year’s Burns supper was a great success and some have already asked to reserve tickets for next year. The hall and caterers have been booked for Saturday, January 27 and I look forward to seeing everyone there!"
