A THERAPEUTIC riding centre for children with disabilities has been refurbished.

Since 1982, the Forres, Nairn and district branch of Riding for the Disabled (RDA) has worked with the Lochore family at an indoor arena at Burgie.

Now the group has used a £5000 grant from The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation to replace its surface.

Chairwoman Sonia Howell explained: "The indoor arena was built in 1976 so over time the riding surface, which is wood fibre, had naturally deteriorated.

"Some Monday mornings, if the weather is wet, we can be inside for more than three hours.

"With eight ponies and more than 20 volunteers moving around with the doors closed, it creates a lot of dust. The best long-term option was to replace the surface."

Highland Equestrian Construction (HEQ) replaced the wood fibre surface with silica sand and fibre. RDA are delighted with the change.
