TWO important anniversaries will be celebrated at the Tolbooth on Wednesday December 7.
The Friends of the Falconer Museum are collaborating with Forres Heritage Trust on their final event to mark the museum’s 150th anniversary – a talk on Sir Walter Scott, one of eight keystone portrait-masks on the outside of the building.
Friends spokesman, Gordon Scott, confirmed a particularly knowledgeable guest is talking.
He explained: “We are delighted to welcome Professor Alison Lumsden – co-director of Aberdeen University’s Walter Scott Research Centre – who has kindly accepted our invitation to give the talk.
“Scott is celebrating his 250th anniversary this year so it is an appropriate moment to reassess the man.
“We look forward to welcoming attendees to what will be an interesting and entertaining evening.”
The ‘Falconer150’ exhibition, first at the Tolbooth, now at Forres Town Hall, was inspired by the carved stone heads on the museum’s north and west façades, mainly of eminent scientists including the building’s founder Hugh Falconer.
Gordon added: “Our focus has highlighted their deteriorating condition and need of expert tender loving care. We look to Moray Council to address the matter with urgency before the heads are lost forever.”
The doors will be open at the Tolbooth from 6.30pm and the talk starts at 7pm. Admission costs £5 including refreshments.
