A care worker has won £3000 on the Forres Mechanics Lotto.

Mandy Anderson of Balnageith Rise has now won twice in the two years that she has been playing and encourages everyone to have a go.

She said: “I was lucky enough to win £50 before, which I was delighted with.

“If anyone is thinking about joining the draw, it’s definitely worthwhile, not only for trying your luck each week but also to support the club, especially while there is no gate receipt income. Every little helps and my win just proves that you have to be in it to win it!”

Mandy’s daughter Shelbie (24) has been helping her with suggestions for how to invest the winnings.

Mandy said: “My family was very excited and I received lovely messages of congratulations, which are very much appreciated. With all the restrictions in place, I can safely say that I won’t be jetting off anywhere anytime soon. However, in my head I have the money spent but I will put it away for a rainy day.”

Mandy is grateful to Forres Mechanics, a club her late partner James Ross and his father Peter supported.

She added: “I play darts for Culloden Moor Inn in Inverness and since James passed we have held a charity darts competition. Before lockdown we raised over £1000, splitting it between Wick youth darts team and Mechanics Under-13s who my nephew Ben Ross plays for.”

Cans’ weekly lottery was launched in 2019 to enable the Mechanics committee to make investments in the club and benefit the wider community. Also, to replace the monthly bingo evening and the 700 club which had run for decades.

Committee member George Alexander confirmed contributions are made to local community groups twice-a-year.

He said: “We have previously contributed to Forres Girls Football and Muscular Sclerosis, and are inviting local groups to contact us if they wish to be considered. They can leave a message on 01309 675096 or email forresmechanics@highlandfootballleague.com. There are Lotto winners every week. Twice, £1000 has been won because a contestant’s four numbers came up and five times £3000 has been won in the raffle because the bonus reached the maximum.”

A lottery line costs £2 and if a winner matches all four numbers, they scoop the jackpot of £1000. In addition to the lottery, prizes of £100, £50, two of £25 are given out each week as a raffle draw. Each week, the jackpot increases by £100 if the jackpot is not won until a maximum of £3000 has been reached which is then drawn as part of the raffle.
