A LOCAL sports club has donated a four figure sum to ensure underprivileged children in the area receive presents this Christmas.

Forres Mechanics FC presented £1000 raised via the Cans Fans Lotto to estate agent Pamela Brown, who is collecting for the Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign for the sixth year-in-a-row.

Cans vice chairman George Alexander confirmed Cash for Kids helps to ensure local children “get a visit from Santa”, alleviating stress to parents and carers at what can be a difficult time of year.

He said: “At this time of tight budgets, some families are faced with horrendous decisions about where to spend their money.

“Pam is a fantastic volunteer, well known for her generous efforts on behalf of the project.

“As a community club, the choice of Pam as the local recipient on behalf of Cash for Kids was a no brainer.”

The appeal works by asking contributors to buy an extra gift to donate while doing their Christmas shopping. The organisers ask for unwrapped gifts for young people up to 18 years of age, with a particular emphasis on items for babies and teenage boys. These include development toys, toiletries, rucksacks, stationary, water bottles, footballs, sports socks, hats, scarves and gloves. The charity aims to give every child a parcel worth £50.

Pamela and her mum Helen collect items and cash donations for the appeal. Gifts can be dropped off at Pamela’s work, Grampian Property Centre on 73 High Street, Forres. The last day for donations this year was Monday, December 18.

Pam said: “I am over the moon for Mechanics to be supporting my ‘Just a Thought Mission Christmas’. People are so generous and kind. I couldn’t do what I do without their donations. Cash for Kids looks after families in Forres and beyond. All children deserve a parcel to open on Christmas Day!”

The Cans Fans Lotto raises funds for the club and for an annual donation to local good causes. Participants pay £2 per week for the chance of winning £1000 to £3000 every week, as well as four prizes of £100, £50 and£25.

“The Lotto has been a huge benefit to the club,” said George. “This year, there have been three winners of £1000, with winners of £100, £50 and two £25s every week.

“The club depends on local support for its survival and does tremendous work for the development of football in our area. If anyone wishes to help this continue then the Cans Fans Lotto is an ideal way to do that.”
