The Grampian Volunteer Transport Awards are now open for nominations.
The Grampian Volunteer Transport Awards are now open for nominations.

Now in their fifth year, the awards celebrate the important work of volunteer drivers and escorts across Grampian.

Many individuals and organisations have received recognition for their work since the awards began in 2014. From community bus drivers providing trips for shopping and essential services, to escorts and organisations supporting patients to travel for treatment.

The awards are being supported by a variety of partners involved with the delivery of the Grampian wide Health and Transport Action Plan.

Health and Transport Action Plan Programme Manager, Andrew Stewart, said: “Community transport provides over 3.5 million passenger journeys a year, allowing people who have no other means of getting about to access vital services.

"Volunteers are at the heart of this effort. For every paid job in community transport there are at least five volunteers. I am delighted that we can use these awards to highlight their support, and the positive impact they have on many lives across Grampian.

"I encourage everyone to nominate their volunteer transport heroes.”

There are three categories in the Grampian Volunteer Transport Awards: Volunteer Driver of the Year; Volunteer Escort of the Year; Community Contribution of the Year.

Three prizes each worth £100 have been sponsored by north-east haulier Colin Lawson Transport.

Nominations are now open until November 23 and awards will be presented at an event in Aberdeen on Friday, December 9.
