IN a summer which has seen the usual calendar of eagerly anticipated events wiped out by Covid-19, a local group of car enthusiasts have provided a glimmer of hope.

Buckie Classic Car Show at one point looked like it may end up joining a very long coronavirus casualty list but the organisers have been delighted to announce that, with lockdown being eased, they are hopeful to have scores of gleaming cars from the past proudly on display at Linzee Gordon Park at the end of August.

John Clark, the group's chairman, said: "We're delighted to be in this position to look at holding the show this year.

"Over the past three months we've sought guidance and advice from Police Scotland and Moray Council and both have been spot on with us.

"We've drawn out a plan of the park and the measures we intend to put in place and both the police and council have got back to say that these are sufficient.

"However, we will be following the Scottish Government guidance and if the R number increases or if virus cases start to rise, which we hope it will not, then we will not go ahead with the show."

While the show looks to be on Mr Clark stressed that it will not be quite the same as before.

"The show will be a lot smaller than in previous years and we've set a limit of 350 entries so we can safely distance out the vehicles. We will be parking the vehicles differently, introducing a one-way system and there will be plenty hand sanitisation stations throughout the park.

"This year small crafters and traders have had a rough spell and with nearly every show cancelled were not charging any fee for small craft makers or traders to have a pitch this year. In previous years they've supported our show so this year we're supporting them.

"There will be a lot of measures in place this year but we feel with lockdown restrictions easing we can hold the show and keep everyone safe at same time."

The show is due to take place on Sunday, August 30, running from 11am-4pm, although these details may be subject to change. Follow the group's Facebook page for updates.
